DAVID BENTLEY MAKES HUGE CLAIM
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder David Bentley has made a huge claim that Harry Redknapp was responsible for ending his Spurs career after that infamous soaking live on TV.
Tottenham Hotspur has just defeated Manchester City even at the Etihad to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history and their manager, Redknapp was being interviewed live on TV.
A group of players led by Bentley stormed into the conference room, pouring water from a big bucket on the English manager, soaking his cloth. All these were done on live TV!
Bentley, who moved to the North London club two years earlier for a reported $15 million, made only two more appearance for the club before been shipped out on loan to various clubs.
The 34 year old had loan spells with Championship club Birmingham as well as West Ham. He also spent sometime in Russia on loan at Rostov before returning back to England for another loan spell at Blackburn.
Speaking with The Telegraph, David Bentley revealed that Spurs players were trying to get the chairman in the changing room on that fateful afternoon before someone said they should get the manager. He says he decided to do it and went for it.
The Englishman also explained that it was just a celebration and he did not mean to make the manager look silly, though that’s exactly what he did.
Redknapp later confirmed in 2011 that he was very unhappy with what David Bentley did to him as he found the incident ‘embarrassing and disrespectful’ but revealed he has never held any grudge towards Bentley.
Bentley retired from football in 2013 at the age of 29.
